Development of bio-related 3D printable materials

This project aims to integrate 3D printing in the bio-related field: biological and biomedical devices need different characteristics (biocompatibility, mechanical and optical properties) which could be found in different materials. The activities include the development of new printable materials, both synthetic and from bioresources, that present the desired properties. Examples: new photocurable compounds, bio-based hydrogels, cytocompatible materials.

Those materials are also employed for the development of devices in biological and biomedical frame, taking advantage of the characteristics of 3D printing: high precision and flexibility in the design, ease of integration. In this context we are developing scaffolds and biomedical devices (Lab on Chip).

The activities performed are supported by DeFLECT and SMART3D regional projects and university’s project “Joint Projects with Top Universities”.
